Garstang Mature Cheddar is a firm, close-textured cheese with a pale golden colour and a robust, tangy bite. The maturity gives it real depth, sharper and more savoury than a mild cheddar, with a slight crumble when cut and a smooth melt when heated. This is a cheddar for everyday cooking. Grate it over jacket potatoes or into macaroni cheese for a stronger flavour that carries through the dish. Slice it for sandwiches and ploughman's lunches, or melt it under the grill for cheese on toast. Its firm texture also makes it easy to cube for a cheeseboard alongside crackers and chutney. For the best flavour, bring it to room temperature before serving on a cheeseboard. Once opened, wrap it well and keep it in the fridge, using it within a few days for the freshest taste and texture. A block this firm also grates cleanly, making it easy to store any leftover cheese in a sealed container or bag once shredded.
